Snowmass, in Colorado, is shown here as a sweeping illustrated panorama: not a flat diagram, but a broad mountain view that lets the whole ski area unfold across ridges, bowls, woodland and village. The composition has real breadth, with the lower slopes and base areas gathered at the foot of the image and the higher terrain rising towards The Cirque and High Alpine beneath a distant alpine skyline. It is a map with plenty of practical detail, yet what first draws the eye is the sense of scale — a resort spread generously across the mountain rather than compressed into symbols.

The geography is especially satisfying to follow. Snowmass Village and Snowmass Base Village sit in the lower centre as a busy cluster of buildings, roads and lift bases, while Two Creeks lies off to the left and the mountain opens steadily outwards and upwards from there. Across the middle and right-hand slopes, Big Burn, Powderhorn, Campground and Sam’s Knob create a sequence of distinct sectors, each threaded with runs and lifts. Higher up, the terrain becomes more dramatic around Hanging Valley, High Alpine and The Cirque, with open snowfields, steeper upper faces and glades cut into darker bands of forest. Beyond the mapped ski terrain, Snowmass Mountain and the Maroon Bells are marked on the skyline, adding a striking sense of place without distracting from the resort itself.

What makes this map so appealing on the wall is the balance between painterly landscape and clear ski cartography. Snow is modelled in white, pale grey and cool blue, while the forests are built from dense blue-green and deep emerald textures that give the mountain real depth. Over that scenic background, the piste network is crisply organised: easiest trails, more difficult runs, most difficult and expert terrain all stand out in distinct colours and symbols, with lift lines and station dots tracing the structure of the mountain. The yellow dotted ski area boundary creates a bold contour around the resort, and the inset enlargement of Hanging Valley adds both visual interest and practical clarity to one of the most intricate upper sections.

There is also plenty here for someone who knows Snowmass well. Familiar names such as Elk Camp, Sheer Bliss, Village Express, Assay Hill, Scooper, Dawdler and Coney Glade are scattered naturally across the slopes, while smaller details around the base — the Snowmass Village Mall, the Clinic, The Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center — make the resort feel lived-in rather than abstract. For past visitors, it is the kind of map that invites you to trace favourite routes from the village up into the wider mountain; for someone planning a future trip, it captures the variety that makes a large ski area so enticing.

The art of the ski map

This panoramic view has a particularly successful visual rhythm. Broad white ski corridors, dark woodland masses and high blue-grey ridgelines are arranged in a way that makes the mountain feel both expansive and legible. The distant peaks above The Cirque give the upper half of the image a dramatic finish, while the villages below anchor it with human scale.

Closer inspection reveals how carefully the information is layered. Lift names sit in neat black labels, trail names are carried clearly within coloured bands, and the pale elevation call-outs punctuate the mountain without overwhelming the illustration. The inset for Hanging Valley is an especially effective touch, rewarding anyone who enjoys studying the finer structure of the ski area.

A sense of place at home

This map would sit particularly well in a chalet sitting room, a study or a family living space where ski memories already have a place. Its cool whites and blue-greens feel fresh and alpine, while the busy lower village and expansive upper mountain give it enough detail to hold attention day after day.

A thoughtful gift for skiers

This is a thoughtful choice for someone with a real connection to Snowmass — a regular visitor, a family who return to the resort, or a skier remembering a favourite Colorado trip. It has the pleasure of recognition built into it, from the base villages to the high terrain around The Cirque.

  • A birthday gift for a skier who loves Snowmass
  • A keepsake of a memorable Colorado ski holiday

A familiar resort can hold years of memories: the slope where someone first learned to ski, a much-loved mountain restaurant, or the chalet you return to every winter. Explore examples of our personalised maps for ideas on how to bring those memories into your design.

For a more nostalgic finish, you can choose our optional ageing treatment. Softer tones and a gently weathered appearance give the map the character of a vintage alpine print, particularly suited to a chalet, study or reading room.
